Shawna Shaw is a registered patent agent with Latimer, Mayberry & Matthews Intellectual Property Law, LLP. Ms. Shaw has substantial experience in the areas of medical devices, medical imaging, internet telephony, and voice-over-IP (VoIP).
Ms. Shaw has nearly a decade of experience as a patent examiner working in the medical device and medical imaging arts at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. She has gained first-hand knowledge of technological trends in the medical device and imaging fields and has a thorough appreciation of the existing prior art. As an examiner in Art Unit 3737, Ms. Shaw handled applications involving catheters, endoscopes, prosthetics, MRI, CT, ultrasound, spectroscopy, computerized image analysis, telemedicine, and a wide range of others. Since leaving the USPTO, Ms. Shaw has prepared and prosecuted numerous patent applications in the medical device and Internet fields.
Ms. Shaw's experience extends beyond the medical arts and into the electronics field. Prior to being employed at the USPTO, Ms. Shaw worked as an engineering intern for Orbital Sciences Corporation in Sterling, VA. She assisted in testing and documenting various aspects of satellite communications. More recently, as a patent practitioner, she has been using her Electrical Engineering background to prepare applications in the areas of Internet telephony and VoIP.
As a USPTO veteran, Ms. Shaw is well versed in the internal operations of the Office from a procedural standpoint. She is therefore able to prepare applications with an eye toward the examiner in an effort to anticipate critical issues and set the stage for a clean written record.
